Introduction

Dear all,

We greatly look forward to hosting our 18th annual MUN conference this May.

As global issues keep growing day by day, acknowledging and actively combating these only becomes more crucial.

Alongside numerous other polarized and critical challenges, the growth of isolationism is a central matter needing to be overcome. “Reshaping and Repurposing the Multilateral Structures as a Response to Growing Isolationism”, our this year’s topic, can be taken as an active step to foster global integration and simultaneously prevent the violation of human rights.

Isolationism indirectly contributes to the progression of nationalism, which leads to not only discrimination, but also the marginalization of vulnerable minorities. It therefore also encourages a sense of national superiority at the expense of equality.

Acting as the world’s biggest organization rooted in multilateralism, the UN works to harmonise, coordinate and mediate international action - from saving human lives through ceasefires to ensuring we all live in an environment where no ceasefire is necessary; in freedom and dignity.

As delegates, this year your focus should be on finding global solutions in order to overcome isolationism and thereby strengthen the 17th goal of the Sustainable Development Goals which focuses on fostering global partnerships. This is an active way to combat structures exclusively focused on prevailing nationalism, which consequently also harm global peace and cooperation.

You are the politicians of your future. Acknowledging and then cooperating with others to combat prominent issues is one step towards preventing causes of segregation, as we are better together.

We look forward to working with you in May!

Sincerely, Atousa Khoshyomn and Eunsu Kang
